Johanna Thompson
I’m a specialist for animal assisted education and interaction (ISAAT certified)
I’m a native German and moved with my family to the United States in 2022.
My Dog Timber (born 2014) also moved with us. Before arriving in North Carolina Timber lived and worked with me in a children’s rehabilitation clinic and in private practice close to the Alps of Germany. My job as an animal-assisted educator is to bring animals and clients together so that both sides benefit from each other, this is known as Human Animal Interaction (HAI).
In my basic training as a social educator/pedagogue, I worked in elementary school with children aged 0-6 years, in youth welfare 12-18 as well as supported people with disabilities, trauma and in hospice care. In my further training based on ISAAT (international society of animal assisted therapy), I deepened my knowledge in the field of human-animal relationships and their psychological, mental, and emotional effects. My professional and private experiences confirm that authentic relationships with animals, whether long or short, deliver a healing effect.
I have been working as an animal-assisted educator since 2014.
