Timber, a 10 years old Golden Retriever, and Maximus our young Shepard Mix in the background, are just getting to know each other. Maximus came along 8 weeks ago and is still in the process of integrating into our family. A process that takes time. In the next few weeks and months, we will give Maximus time and opportunities to find his way in our family ecosystem.
As in every family, there are a few new rules. “Don’t bite shoes into pieces” is one of them, but like Maximus and most young dogs, this must first be learned. Timber our older dog knows our rules, our routine. He is a great support in Maximus integration. Timber came to us at 12 weeks old and is very well socialized, calm, friendly and patient. Maximus is very guided by him. It can be helpful to have an experienced dog to rely on. Our young Max has gained a solid, mature leader, teacher, papa and friend. He is a rescue dog and has probably never had a healthy bond with a human or animal pack before. We still have many adventures ahead of us but for now we are just trying to enjoy the time to integrate Maximus into our family with lots of love and trust building.
